1- What is the story 'The old Man and the Sea'
about?
It's about man's fight against nature.
2- What did Manolin's parents tell him?
Manolin's parents told him to go fishing with a more
successful fisherman.
3-Who took the bait? A big fish - a marlin - took
the bait.
4- What did the fish do?
The fish pulled the boat along. This continued for
two days and nights. The old man was in great pain because he had the fishing
line round his body.
5- When did the old man kill the marlin?
On the third day, the old man managed to pull it to
the side of the boat and kill it.
6- What happened to the martin as the old man pulled
it?
Sharks attacked the boat and tried to eat the
marlin. The old man killed seven sharks, but during the night more sharks came
and ate the marlin. Only its skeleton remained.
7- Who found Santiago's
boat with the fish skeleton? Some fishermen found it.
8- Who was worried about Santiago? What did he do?
Manolin, his apprentice was worried first but later
was glad to find him sleeping at home. He bought him some coffee and newspapers

Such people never give in Although Santiago was old, he determined to catch the

the story?
I sympathize with him as he was completely exhausted
when he got back home.
14- Why do you think the young apprentice, Manolin
likes the old man so much?
Because he is brave as he goes to the sea to catch a
big fish alone and he also fights 7 sharks to keep the fish alive. Manolin goes
to visit him as he is worried about him. He sees that Santiago is a good example to be followed.
15- What do you think the young man learns from Santiago? He learns
patience, determination and strong will.

He is extremely happy as he achieves what he wants
to do which is catching the fish alone. He is also satisfied as he feels that

getting a big fish despite his pain and struggle to get it.

Some people choose to do dangerous jobs because they
are brave and adventurous. They are ready to give their lives to save others

people who are in danger and need help.

Air is polluted with exhaust fumes which can damage our
health as well as the environment.

They burn petrol more efficiently.

When the battery is empty, the petrol engine takes over and
this recharges the battery. Early cars ran out of fuel when the battery was
empty.

They may use hydrogen and oxygen.

Because in the future there will be no oil.
