C- Reading
5- Read the following passage, then answer the questions:
Every second, 1 hectare of the worlds rainforest is destroyed. That's equivalent to two football fields. An area the size of New York City is lost every day. In a year, that adds up to 31 million hectares more than the land area of Poland. This alarming rate of destruction has serious consequences for the environment; scientists estimate, for example, that 137 species of plant, insect or animal become extinct every day due to logging. In British Columbia, where, since 1990, thirteen rainforest valleys have been clear-cut, 142 species of salmon have already become extinct, and the habitats of grizzly bears, wolves and many other creatures are threatened. Logging, however, provides jobs, profits, taxes for the government and cheap products of all kinds for consumers, so the government is reluctant to restrict or control it.
Much of Canada's forestry production goes towards making pulp and paper. If these paper products could be produced in some other way, Canadian forests could be preserved.
A-Answer the following questions:
1. What are the consequences of logging on environment?
2. Are there any advantages for logging? What are they?

5. Logging means cutting down ……………… .
a- standards                 b- costs                        c- sizes                        d- trees

1-Hundreds of species of plant, insect or animal become extinct every day due to logging.
2-Yes, as it provides jobs, profits, taxes for the government and cheap products for all kinds of consumers.
3-Yes, it does. If we find other ways to produce things like paper, many of the forests can be preserved.

8. a. Write a paragraph of about 100 words on:
"Charitable Organizations"
No one can deny that charitable organizations play a very important role in all countries of the world. It is known that there are a lot of people who live in abject poverty. Those people are in bad need of those who lend them a hand to lead a decent life. Charitable organizations do an excellent job when they collect money from rich people and give it to those who are in dire need of it. They sometimes ask humanitarian teachers to give the poor students private lessons for free. They may provide them with clothes and food. There are also medical charitable organizations which help a large number of poor patients. Some of the best doctors treat the needy free of charge. It is our duty to help charitable organizations by all possible means as they contribute greatly to relieving the pains of poor people and draw a smile on their lips. In this way, they open the door of hope before them and make them feel that they are not alone in this world.

b. Write a paragraph of about 100 words on:
"Money is the root of every evil".
Is money the root every evil? The answer to this question is not so simple as it sounds for it needs elaboration. Money is a tool that can be used well or badly. Therefore, I'd prefer to say that it is the love of money which is the root of all evil and not money itself. To become rich in a short time, some corrupted people may commit crimes! Not a single day passes without hearing about a bank robbery or a murder. The reason why such crimes are committed is usually the desire to make a fortune in no time without exerting great efforts. Although having a lot of money is a blessing from God, it can be a curse if we misuse it. For example, a lot of deviated wealthy people spend their money in a way that displeases God. Some of them waste their money on drinking wine, gambling or taking drugs. In this way they ruin themselves and their families. Others are wasteful of their money. Wastefulness is a bad quality of course. On the other hand, money is indispensable. If someone said," Money is not important ", we would consider him foolish. We need it to spend on our education, food, shelter and so on. When we use it well, it becomes a servant to us. Wise people use it for the good of the society in which they live so as to gain the satisfaction of Allah.

                                                                    Translation
9. 1. a. Translate into Arabic:
The high cost of living is one of our most difficult problems. The rise in prices is due to inflation. To bring the prices down, both the government and the individuals should work together, investment should be encouraged, production should be increased and consumption should be cut down.
إن إرتفاع تكاليف المعيشة واحدة من أصعب المشكلات،  والإرتفاع في الأسعار يرجع إلي التضخم ولتقليل الأسعار ينبغي علي الحكومة و الأفراد أن يعملوا معاً و يجب تشجيع الإستثمار وزيادة الإنتاج وتقليل الاستهلاك.
b. Translate into English:

1- I like reading adventure stories because they arouse my curiosity.
2- Umbrellas protect us from the heat of the sun in summer and the rain in winter.
2. a. Translate into Arabic:
Our great big cities don’t suit modern living. They have been set up with no regard to their inhabitants and their comfort. They consist of a variety of buildings and narrow streets full of petrol fumes and noise which affect people’s health, nerves and even their mental health.
إن مدننا الكبرى العظيمة لا تناسب الحياة الحديثة  ، فقد أقيمت دون مراعاة لسكانها وراحتهم وهي تتكون من مجموعة متنوعة من المباني و الشوارع الضيقة الممتلئة بعوادم السيارات  والضوضاء التي تؤثر علي صحة وأعصاب الناس وأيضا علي صحتهم العقلية
b. Translate into English:
1- يجب علينا معاملة ذوي الإحتياجات الخاصة بطريقة إنسانية وذلك بدمجهم مع قرنائهم.
